Alec (Kooka (Kookaburra)) Epis is an 80 year old Essendon great. He is most respected and
respectful of others, with high moral values. He values customs & his Italian traditions.
He is Australian born but from strong Italian heritage, an Italian gold mining family from
Boulder WA.

He played 180 games for Essendon (no. 28) between 1958 & 68 – 4 grand finals & 2
premierships. A tough half back flanker, he never took a backward step and was a bit of a
showman. He gave a bit of lip along with being an incessant chatterer. He became great mates
with John Coleman after an early altercation. Alec played on Alex Jesaulenko in his final game,
the ’68 Grand Final.

He has been a successful club person and businessman, and also did 23 years as a voluntary
social worker at Pentridge prison. He was also a great mentor to young Essendon players.
Alec lives between his old Essendon precinct (Moonee Ponds) and his Woodend winery.
