Rodney Hogg, Australian fast bowler – debuted in the 78/79 Ashes series of 6 Tests with 41 wickets at an average of 12.85. He came into the team when Lillee and Thompson moved to World Series Cricket. He was an aggressive and sometimes controversial Australian fast bowler.Born in Richmond in 1951 his cricket career began at Northcote Cricket Club. He followed Gary Cosier from Northcote to South Australia where he played for SA before being picked for Australia. He became Australian Vice Captain but then joined the rebel tour of South Africa and finished up playing for Victoria. He assisted David Hookes coach Victoria.
There is an autiobiography – “The Whole Hogg – Inside the mind of a lunatic fast bowler” and Rodney Hogg is now a very popular and sought after public and corporate speaker. In his words “ I was there for the 500/1, I was there for the 43 cans, I was there for the underarm, I was there for the aluminium bat …”.
