Ken Sheldon moved from north-central Victoria to play VFL for Carlton in 1977 as a 17 year old. He played 132 games for Carlton before leaving to play for St Kilda from 1987. He played in 3 Carlton premierships 79, 81 & 82, was a Victorian representative player in 80 & 83, was Carlton’s leading goalkicker in 79 and is in Carlton’s Hall of Fame.

He was a clever & courageous player who took over the number 5 jumper from Syd Jackson. Ken kicked the goal late in the game in the 79 Grand Final against Collingwood, from the famous Wayne Harmes knock from the boundary.

He played 53 games for St Kilda and then took over as coach in 1990 lifting the down and out Saints to finals appearances in 92 & 93. He then coached South Adelaide in the SANFL from 94. His son Sam played AFL for Brisbane Lions.

He is a very entertaining public speaker.
